Belarusians to boycott elections

Internet edition “Belorusskie Novosti” carried on Internet polling on the topic “Who will you vote for at parliamentary “elections”?” The absolute majority (about 50 per cent) said they are not going to participate in the “elections”, which are to be held on 28 September 2008.
The results of the Internet polling are: 4.4. per cent said they are going to vote for a candidate, representing the authorities, 35.9 per cent are for an opposition candidate, 6.4 per cent will vote for a person whom they “know better”, 0.3 per cent will chose a candidate “who promises more”, 4.1 per cent are going to vote against all candidates, and 48.5 per cent said “I won’t go to this elections!”
It should be reminded that the parliamentary elections are to be carried out in Belarus. Representatives of the civil society and youth organisations are going to boycott them. Since 1996 all elections and referendums in Belarus have been recognised as unfree and non-democratic by international organisations.
