Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus has met today with former Belarusian political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin.
“It was a working meeting,” spokeswoman of the Lithuanian President Rita Grumadaite told to Interfax on Tuesday.
The content of the talks is unknown.
Former candidate for presidency of the Republic of Belarus Alyaksandr Kazulin was arrested for organisation of protest rally against rigging the presidential election results on Freedom Day, 25 March 2006. On 13 July, 2006, The Minsk city court sentenced Alyaksandr Kazulin to 5.5 years of imprisonment.
The European Union and the US demanded to release the political prisoner. Refusal to release Kazulin and other political prisoners was the main reason for imposing economic sanctions against the Belarusian regime by the United States.
