MEP Janusz Onyszkiewicz: The West shouldn’t recognise “election” in Belarus

Polish member of the European Parliament, former defence minister and one of the leaders of Solidarity movement urged the West not to recognise the election results in Belarus.

Vice-president of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee and a member of the EU’s Delegation for Relations with Belarus has no doubts, the forces, connected with Alyaksandr Lukashenka, will own the “election”. As the MEP thinks, even if opposition figures get to the Belarusian “parliament”, they won’t be able to influence the process of decision-making in the country, Polskie Radio reports.

At the same time Janusz Onyszkiewicz confirmed that certain changes could be noticed in Belarus: Lukashenka begins to turn his attention to Belarus’s image in the world.

As the MEP thinks, it means a greater responsibility for the Western countries. It would be bad, if they recognised this “election honest,” Onyszkiewicz said.
