The Belarusian opposition had no chances at the “parliamentary elections”, as voting was held in conditions of Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s absolute authoritarianism.
“Novyj Region” has been told about that by a deputy of the Supreme Rada representing Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc Volodymir Polokhalo.
“Firstly, oppositionists didn’t have an opportunity to carry out their campaign. Secondly, they didn’t have their representatives at polling stations, and thirdly, there was absolutely no protection of ballots, they could be printed by Xerox in fact; and fourthly, Lukashenka managed to control the whole process of voting harshly, and I really think that pro-regime candidates have won in that. But I think that under the conditions of absolute authoritarianism of Lukashenka, the opposition could not win by any way,” the Ukrainian deputy said.
As said by Polokhalo, in the near future Belarus can recognize independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in order to decrease oil prices.
“Essentially, Lukashenka is a gambler. And he chooses rather exotic partners for himself. One can think of partners from South America for instance. That is why he is flirting with Abkhazia and South Ossetia now to please Putin as that Russia decrease prices for gas,” the BYuT representative concluded.
