Zmitser Bandarenka: “Enemies won’t achieve anything even by terror”

“European Belarus” coordinator believes that today attempts to intimidate Belarusian oppositionists in most cruel manner are taking place.
“In many films we saw a scene when prisoners are taken into the prison yard, ordered to stand near the wall, persons with guns stand in front of them, and after the “Fire!” order they shoot overhead, not in the prisoners. And audience understands the horror of such a situation, when a person gets ready to part with life, but stays alive. The same situation is happening in Belarus now. But the procedure of cancelled execution is even more extended in time,” stated the coordinator of “European Belarus” civil campaign Zmitser Bandarenka, commenting to charter97.org website on the abductions of youth leaders which have become more frequent recently.
The politician reminded that “young people are seized in the streets, and for many long and awful hours they are transported in cars without number plates. They are told: “That’s the end of your life”, and then thrown away in a forest”.
“And everyone keeps silent. People in Belarus keep silent, people in Europe keep silent, people in the world keep silent. Frankly speaking, I am tired to hear from one more German, Lithuanian, Czech or Pole statements that “there is no dictatorship in Belarus, it is mild totalitarian regime, and in general, you do nothing, Belarusian oppositionists”. Today European “liberalizators” are in league with those who abduct youth leaders in Belarus but still haven’t pulled the trigger,” said the coordinator of “Europerean Belarus”.
But it is quite possible, Bandarenka believes, that “tomorrow Lukashenka’s wolves will continue murders, as nobody has accounted for deaths of Hanchar, Zavadski, Krasouski and, as the dictator had confessed himself, for deaths of many other Belarusians”.
“It is even more terrible that when countries headed by yesterday’s freedom fighters grant moral and many billion financial aid to the dictator who has gone to far. They keep silent, fearing to spoil the picture of “liberalization”. There are attempts to intimidate us, Belarusian oppositionists, in most cruel way, but even by terror our enemies won’t achieve anything. We are ready for death, as we know that God, Truth and History are on our side,” “European Belarus” coordinator stated.
We remind that one of the leaders of “European Belarus” civil campaign Yauhen Afnagel was abducted by the unknown on December 6. As Afnagel told, he had been caught by four men in mufti in Belinski Street in Minsk in the evening on December 6. Afnagel was forced to get into a white car with tinted windows and taken out of town. According to the activist of “European Belarus”, the kidnappers didn’t talk anything. He was forced to sit with his head between his knees and was let out on a country road some kilometres from Barysau highway.
Recently secret service men abducted youth leaders Zmitser Dashkevich and Artur Finkevich, “European Belarus” activist Uladzimir Lemesh. In all the cases oppositionists were abducted by unkown in mufti, who had police walkie-talkies however. The young people were taken to the forest, threatened and demanded to stop political activities. Then the activists were taken away from Minsk for dozens of kilometers.
