Rallies on the Day of Solidarity with Belarus were held on February 16 outside Belarus as well. Support to Belarusian political prisoners was expressed in Poland too.
About a dozen of people gathered near the Belarusian Embassy in Warsaw with candles and national flags.
The rally organized by the “Belarusian National Memory” and the civil campaign “European Belarus” lasted for half an hour. Participants expressed their support to victims of political repressions, scanning “Long live Belarus!” No one came out of the Belarusian Embassy to speak to the protesters.
“It is extremely important for Europeans to understand that no “liberalization” is taking place in Belarus. Crackdown continues, young people are beaten up; peaceful rallies are disbanded,” an activist of the “European Belarus” Lyubou Kuchynskaya said. “In such a situation it is not clear why European officials are speaking about some changes, lift sanctions and give the dictator a possibility to tell lies on air of Euronews channel. Games with the regime would lead to escalation of repressions. Europeans should understand that”.
Like in Belarus, in Warsaw rallies of solidarity with political prisoners and families of the abducted politicians are held on the 16th day of every month.
