Alyaksandr Kazulin: “Navumau’s resignation is not a parting but attempts to hide the past”

Former political prisoner and presidential candidate Alyaksandr Kazulin commented on the resignation of the Belarusian interior minister in an interview to Radio Svaboda.
“Certainly, he is the last person from Lukashenka’s inner circle and he knows much,” Alyaksandr Kazulin says.
“The today’s Ministry of Internal Affaires reminds the former Ministry of Security in the former Soviet Union, which was above all controlling agencies and the other secret services. It led to wide corruption. That’ why it means parting... Not parting but attempts to hide the past and settle the key problems in the current conditions,” the politician notes.
According to Alyaksandr Kazulin, Navumau’s resignation doesn’t mean criminal persecution of opposition activists and brutal dispersals of demonstrations will stop in Belarus.
“Brutal dispersals of manifestation don’t depend on a personality, though Navumau played a great role in them. But now Navumau can’t control all law enforcement agencies. Now a person who controls them is Viktar Lukashenka,” the former political prisoner emphasised.
Though the Belarusian regime is trying to demonstrate its democratic character by resignation of Navumau, the essence of Lukashenka’s dictatorship will be seen further, Alyaksandr Kazulin believes.
“In my view, the authorities wear a new suit and are trying to prove the world this suit fits them. But the essence is seen and will be seen further on. Now, it will be impossible to lay responsibility for someone else, for the people, who were in view, have hidden in shadow. That’s why from now on all events will touch Lukashenka and his sons,” he said.
