A performance, dedicated to the 599th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald was held in a Yanka Kupala park in Minsk on July 15.
More than 200 young people gathered in the center of Minsk with pillows of different size, sleeping bags, and balloons. It was a means of the improvised battle. The organizers said participants could fight only with pillows, blows at head were not allowed, Radio Svaboda reports.
Passers-by and militia offices were watching the performance which wasn’t authorized. The improvisation of the battle of Grunwald was a fun, shouts “Belarus!” didn’t lead to victims.
All participants were divided into two teams – the knights of the Teutonic Order and the Litvins. Naturally, the Litvins won the battle.
Only two rounds were held instead of four. Militiamen, watching the battle and filming it on a mobile phone, told one of the organizers, youth leader and former political prisoner Andrei Kim, that the participants should disperse because the militia may come.
The participants of the battle were handed in postcards with text “Pillow Battle – Let’s Beat Our Swords into Pillows!”
