Members of the Belarusian Youth Movement of America held a picket against bringing Russian troops in Belarus.
On September 12, the movement activists came to the UN Headquarters in New York with national white-red-white flags and posters “Live Free Belarus!”, “Enough Lie!”, “No to Russian Troops in Belarus”, “Lukashism is Political Chernobyl”, “Russia Hands off Belarus”.
“Bringing Russian troops in Belarus violates the Constitution of our country. It obliges the authorities to be neutral and not to join any military blocs. Permit to bring another country’s army in Belarus is another insult of the people of Belarus by the last dictator of Europe,” the picket organizers said.
Activists of the Belarusian Youth Movement of America think the peaceful rally against bringing Russian troops, brutally dispersed in Minsk on September 9, is the fact that demonstrates the amoral character of the Belarusian authorities and the anti-Belarusian character of Lukashenka’s regime.
“Slavish and servile obedience to anti-Constitutional orders is a shame to a Belarusian officer, who must defend his people. The Belarusians took the news on brining Russian troops in Belarus with great awareness. The youth who came to the UN Headworkers in New York, as thousands of Belarusians, condemned the decision of the authorities to allow the eastern neighbour in military boots and with arms to walk in our country, the country which people have suffered a lot from foreign invaders over the centuries,” the picket organizers say.
The picketers also reminded that the tenth anniversary of disappearance of vice speaker of the Supreme Council of Belarus Viktar Hanchar and businessman and public figure Anatol Krasouski will be marked on September 16.
“The independent investigation proved that high-ranking officials are involved in killing the famous politicians. The suspected are still in power, the law enforcement bodies practically don’t investigate the case, and secret services persecute opposition activists for spreading information about the killings. Unfortunately, we have to state that European politicians make concessions to the anti-Belarusian criminal regime,” the activists of the Belarusian Youth Movement of America say.
At the and of the picket the protesters pay tribute to the kidnapped leaders of the Belarusian opposition and expressed their support to the Belarusians, struggling for democratization in the country.
