Opposition activists were calling Belarusian officers to keep faith to the nation and not to the dictator on December, 19.

Participants of the civil campaign “Tell the Truth” conducted a campaign near the entrance of the Central House of Officers in Minsk on December, 8. It was timed to coincide with the official meeting of Armed Forces of Belarus held here, BelaPAN reports.

“Not so many days are left till the Square. It should be reminded daily that this event will take place”, activist Mikhail Pashkevich said.

The campaign started at 9:25 a.m. and lasted for 40 minutes. During it 10 representatives of the civil campaign stood in line near the entrance of the House of Officers where the honor guard met the participants of the officers’ meeting.

Activists held a banner with the inscription: “Keep the honor of an officer on December, 19!”, and also photos of the former minister of internal affairs of Belarus Yury Zakharanka, missing since May 1999.

The participants of the campaign were approached by a military colonel and demanded to dismiss. Mikhail Pashkevich denied this request, having stated: “We came to remind that you gave an oath not to Lukashenka, but to the people of Belarus.”

More than a dozen of officers, including the State Secretary of Security Council Leanid Maltsau, became witnesses of the campaign.

Activists are sure that the conducted campaign will definitely be discussed in the officers’ circles.
