The young leader was detained in the centre of Minsk and taken to the police department of Pershamajski district.
The car of the “Young Front” leader Zmitser Dashkevich was stopped in Kuzma Chorny Street at 4.45 p.m. by traffic policemen. Notably, the oppositionist was followed up by a car with a siren horn. The politician was told that information had been received from some “old ladies” that a driver without a driver’s license was driving in that district.
As Dashkevich told to charter97.org website, after some check traffic policemen stated that there is no Dashkevich’s name in the database of drivers’ licenses, and he was taken to the police department of Pershamajski district of Minsk. At the moment a report is being drawn up there, his driver’s license is seized from him.
“I have a driver’s license. I received it at the State Automobile Inspectorate. It is clear were those “old ladies” work. It was obviously made on a tip-off by the KGB. We have reached an active stage of the election campaign. My today’s detention and the detention of Ales Pushkin demonstrate that the election campaign in Belarus gains the character which is well-known for our society,” Dashkevich comments.
IN an hour it was found out that Dashkevich’s license is on the database. However, policemen stated that it could be forged. When observers of the OSCE/ODHR mission arrived to the police department, policemen had to admit that the license is valid. However, his car was confiscated, allegedly for a check, is this car had been stolen. The oppositionist was said to come back to take the car in 10 days.
“I told them that I will return on December 20 with governmental number plates, “Pahonya” coat of arms and a white-red-white flag!” Dashkevich said.
We remind that today an artist and activist Ales Pushkin was arrested in his house. His wife has told about that to “Radio Svaboda”.
“A group of policemen headed by an officer of the criminal investigation department of the criminal investigation department of Krupki district police Andrei Andreikau arrived. They “tied” my husband and forcibly took him outside the house,” his wife Alesya told.
As said by her, a local tramp had visited Ales Pushkin. He provoked the artist by curses and tried to start a fight.
After the uninvited guest left the yard of the private house, policemen arrived immediately. They stated that they allegedly had been informed about a fight started by Ales Pushkin.
The wife has no doubts that one more provocation had been staged against Ales Pushkin. She reminded that during the previous election campaign Ales Pushkin was also detained and sentenced to 15 days of arrest. In this way he was deprived of a possibility to participate in political rallies of the opposition.
In the police department Ales Pushkin was charged for “hooliganism” and “disobedience to policemen.” He was left in custody until the court trial on the next day.
