Former political prisoner Yury Lyavonau from Vaukavysk has faced an increased interest in him.

The businessman was in the Minsk detention facility (from February 8 to August 8 2009) together with Vaukavysk entrepreneurs Mikalai Autukhovich and Uladzimir Asipenka on accusation of destruction of other people’s property. The case against Lyavonau was closed due to the lack of evidence, but the law-enforcement bodies give him no peace. An investigator sometimes phoned and asks strange questions, or officers of courts send summons, wife of former entrepreneur Yury Lyavonau said.

“There was a call on our home telephone. I answered it. A man introduced himself as an investigator. He asked if Yury was registered on the apartment, if the neighbours complained about him, who owned the apartment. The man said he was an investigator, but he didn’t say where he worked, didn’t leave his contact number,” Yury Lyavonau’s wife told “Belorusski Partizan”.

This is not the only case of close attention to Yury Lyavonau and his family.

“I find a summons in our mailbox. Yury is summoned to the Vaukavysk district court at 9:30 a.m. February 24 to officer of court Khalopau as a debtor in the first criminal case,” Yauhenia Lyavonau says.

Yury Lyavonau is one of three Vaukavysk entrepreneurs accused of intentional destruction of other people’s property and preparation of a terroristic act. He was in the Minsk detention facility from February 8 to August 8 2009. All accusations were dismissed from Yury Lyavonau on September 24, 2009.

After release, Yury Lyavonau was looking for a job. He had to leave Belarus.

“I was in prison not on my fault... My father died in November... I have to look after my mother, so I live in Moscow now. I visit home to see my family from time to time,” Yury Lyavonau said.

The former political prisoner spent much time looking for a job in Belarus, in Poland. He had to leave for Moscow after his father’s death to look after his elderly mother.

“An officer of court wants me to pay 860 million rubles, which Autukhovich and I must pay as a fine in the first criminal case... Autukhovich is in prison... He cannot pay. In fact, I am a beggar. I was seized everything on a decision of the court. the officer of court worries, the fine must be paid. But I can’t help; I do not have such a sum and will apparently never have...” Yury Lyavonau commented on the situation.
