The Union of Poles in Belarus regards interrogation of Tereza Sobal as continuation of pressure on the organisation by the Belarusian authorities.
As informed by Radio Svaboda, an activist of the Union of Poles Tereza Sobal was summoned for interrogation to Valozhyn police department on February 24. She is a suspect in the criminal case of abuse of power (Article 210 Part 2 of the Criminal Code).
The case is based upon the fact that in late 2004 the director of the Polish House in Ivyanets Tereza Sobal received a bonus from the leadership of the Union of Poles in Belarus, Br 600,000.
The bookkeeper of the Polish House Romualda Miron has been summoned for interrogation as well. It has been reported from Valozhyn by Andrzej Poczobut, a journalist and an activist of the Union of Poles not recognized by the authorities.
The Union of Poles in Belarus regards today’s interrogation of Tereza Sobal as continuation of the campaign on destruction of Ivyanets branch of the Union of Poles which supports Andzelika Borys, Poczobut noted.
We remind that recently crackdown on the Union of Poles has been increased. On February 17 Polish Sejm adopted the resolution condemning actions of Minsk against the Polish minority in Belarus. The resolution includes a recommendation to consider a possibility to return to the policy of sanctions against the Belarusian leadership.
