Student fined for action of solidarity with Union of Poles

Iryna Gubskaya, an activist of the organizing committee on creating the BCD party, was fined 175,000 rubles by the administrative commission of the Frunzenski district of Minsk.

The commission found her guilty of violation article 21.14 of the Code of Administrative Offences (violation of rules of urban maintenance), the press service of the organizing committee on the party creation reports, BelaPAN informs.

Iryna Hubskaya was detained late at night on February 15 in Minsk when the young Christian democrats were holding an action to support the unregistered Union of Poles in Belarus led by Andzelika Borys.

During the action, white-red-white stickers “Wolna Bialorus” (Free Belarus) appeared in the city center, in metro station “Lenin Square”, on the building of Belarusian State University and the Minsk city executive committee.

The activist was detained by guards of the Minsk city executive committee. She was detained to the Maskouski district militia department and released three hour later.

18-year old student Iryna Hubskaya has been nominated for candidates to members of the Minsk city council.

We remind that recently repressions against the Union of Poles have intensified. Activists of the Union of Poles which is not recognised by the authorities were arrested and detained. The Polish House was seized from Ivyanets branch of the Union of Poles.

In this connection the Polish government, as well as heads of the European Union and the European Parliament expressed concern over violations of human rights in Belarus.

On February 17, the Polish Sejm adopted a resolution condemning actions of Minsk in relations to the Polish minority in Belarus. The resolution includes recommendations to consider return to the policy of sanctions against the Belarusian government.
