Activists of the Union of Poles in Belarus which is not recognized by the authorities called that a pre-planned provocation.
On February 6 overnight the unknown punctured tyres and splashed blue paint on two cars owned by the Union of Poles headed by Andzelika Borys.
It has been informed by the organisation’s spokesperson Ihar Bantsar to “Radio Svaboda”. He believes it was a provocation. Ihar Bantsar says that when one of the owners of the car addressed police, policemen arrived to the scene unwillingly. The spokesperson has also noted that on February 6 Andzelika Borys planned to drive to Smarhon.
We remind that on February 5 in the evening Lenin district court of Hrodna sentenced Polonika firm headed by Andzelika Borys with a fine of 71 mln Br. In fact it could mean the liquidation of the firm.
Hrodna tax inspection considered the money received by the firm from Polish organisation Wspólnota Polska, a humanitarian aid, and materials of the inspection were forwarded to the regional economic court. The case was to be tried on Friday, but was postponed till Monday.
However suddenly Andzelika Borys was given summons to Lenin district court of Hrodna, where Judge Natalya Kozel finished trying the case within 15 minutes.
After the split of the Union of Poles in 2005 Polonika was used by Andzelika Borys’ supporters to carry out their activities in a legalized way. Teaching the Polish language, organizing concerts of Polish singers, rent payments, and financing of some Polish Houses were carried out through Polonika. The authorities knew that, but Polonika was left alone until serious pressure on the Union o Poles started.
