Militia has continued hunting activists of the unrecognized Union of Poles in Belarus.

Mechyslau Yaskevich (Mieczyslaw Jaskiewicz), deputy head of the Union of Poles in Belarus (UPB) and activist Veranika Sebastsyanovich were detained near the town of Shchuchyn (the Hrodna region), Euroradio reports.

They were detained by the Shchuchyn militia, activist of the Union of Poles Andrzej Poczobut informs.

“They were told they were suspected of carrying illegal literature. They were guarded to Shchuchyn. They are in a militia department at the moment,” Andrzej Poczobut said.

As Poczobut noted, Veranika Sebastsyanovich is a war veteran and head of the association of the Armia Krajowa soldiers at the UPB. She and Yaskevich were detained during a trip to Armia Krajova veterans.

We remind that repressions against the Union of Poles have recently tightened in Belarus. On February 17, the Sejm of Poland adopted a resolution condemning Minsk actions in respect to the Polish minority in Belarus. The resolution recommends considering a possibility of returning to policy of sanctions against the Belarusian leadership.
