"European Belarus" leader was positively impressed with "the fighting spirit of pro-democracy activists who know that it won't be easy, but are ready to fight with the brazen regime".
The working trip of the leader of the civil campaign "European Belarus" Andrei Sannikov and the first leader of independent Belarus, chairman of the Belarusian Social Democratic Hramada Stanislau Shushkevich to Hrodna took place on June 9.
The politicians met with representatives of parties, public associations, leaders of entrepreneurs, human rights activists and journalists. During the meetings the situation in the country and in Hrodna region was discussed, as well as the imminent presidential elections, the stategy of actions of democratic activists in this elections. Some of the meetings were held in the headquarters of the Belarusian Social Democratic Hramada.
"It is not the first visit and meeting with activists of the democratic movement. Five meetings with Minsk and regional activists. The aim of the trip was preparation for cration of an initiative group for signatures collection. It was very important to find out what concerns Hrodna dwellers have, what hopes they rest on the upcoming election campaign. I can say one thing -- everybody curses the former governor Sauchanka for destroying the historical centre of the city and cutting secular trees. After that Hrodna residents do not call their city a green city, but speak about barbarian ecological murder. It is an example of tyranny and impunity of authorities under Lukashenka regime. I was positively impressed the fighting spirit of pro-democracy activists who know that it won't be easy, but are ready to fight with the brazen regime," Andrei Sannikov noted.
