On April 25 the Information Ministry of Belarus has filed suits to the Supreme Economic Court of Belarus to shut down “Nasha Niva” and “Narodnaya Volya” newspapers.
This decision was adopted under Article 51 part 2.2 of the Belarus’ Law on Mass Media, as two or more official warnings have been issued to the editorial offices of the newspapers within a year, BelTA was told by the Information Ministry.
The official warnings to independent newspapers had been made for their articles about the blast in Minsk metro on April 11 and about the articles on the events of December 19, 2010 in Minsk, when a peaceful protest rally against the rigged election results was brutally cracked down on, and massive repressions followed.
