Ales Mikhalevich, who received political asylum in the Czech Republic, thinks that all possible non-violent instruments, including economic sanctions, should be used to release political prisoners in Belarus.
“Economic sanctions should be imposed and remain in force until the last political prisoner is freed,” he said at a press conference in Vilnius on May 5, BelaPAN writes.
“My today’s activity is focused on one issue, the release of political prisoners,” Mikhalevich underlined. He intends to visit several countries with this aim. The politician plans to visit Geneva in the nearest time to meet with representatives of the UN structures dealing with the issues on torture prevention and inhuman treatment.
Mikhalevich also said that he was going to become a key person to launch criminal prosecution of Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
We remind that Mikhalevich said during an online conference on the website of the RFE/RL Belarusian service on March 28 that he had come into contact with H2O Law, a British law firm, which prepares to start prosecution of Lukashenka for human rights violations.
