Vertebral column of the political prisoner would be operated on Tuesday probably. But even prison doctors are against this operation.
On July 22 the wife of “European Belarus” civil campaign Volha Bandarenka could visit her husband in the remand prison of the Interior Affairs Ministry again.
During the meeting she learnt that on Monday, July 25, Zmitser Bandarenka is to be transferred from the Republican Prison Hospital to the 5th hospital of Minsk. On Tuesday the political prisoner, who suffers from herniated intervertebral disks, spinal nerve entrapments, a paresis of one leg and a threat of immobilization of the other leg, is to be operated.
We remind that administration of the remand prison of the Interior Affairs Ministry said as an ultimatum that he should either go to the penal colony or to undergo operation. He was denied consultation of a neurosurgeon.
“I visited an independent neurosurgeon the day before, and he told that it is dangerous to carry out an operation without due aftercare. Today Zmitser stated that on Monday he is to be taken to hospital, and be operated on Tuesday. But all his consulting doctors, including doctors from the prison hospital, make objections to the operation, as he has physiological contra indications, and it is dangerous to carry out an operation, as the risk of becoming a disabled person is high,” Volha Bandarenka said to charter97.org website.
As said by the wife of the political prisoner, to follow postoperative directions in prison – to sit or to stand only – is impossible. Aftercare period should last for at least a month.
“And the doctor said to me when we met that Zmitser would stay in the hospital for 4 days, and for 2 weeks in the prison hospital in Valadarski Street. After the operation he will have severe pains, and most likely he is to be told: if you would not write a petition for pardon, we would not give painkillers to you,” Volha Bandarenka is alarmed.
Flagrant details of Zmitser Bandarenka’s incarceration in the KGB remand prison have become known today. Health problems of Zmitser Bandarenka started after numerous beating by riot police at oppositional protest rallies. We remind that earlier Zmitser Bandarenka informed that his health condition greatly broke down specifically in the inner prison of the KGB, where he stayed for the first half a year after his arrest.
The political prisoner was made to run with his mattress and two begs up and down the stairs during numerous searches; he was made to stand in a stretch-out position for an hour or two; he did not have a sleeping berth, and he was sleeping on planks on the cold floor. There was no toilet in the cell, and it was a regular torture.
And today Zmitser Bandarenka informed that in late January he was placed in a punishment cell of the remand prison, and in the first hours he was chained there. He was placed into the punishment cell after he sought medical help from a doctor because of a gastric ulcer.
