Kyrgyz president Roza Otunbayeva hopes that the former president Kurmanbek Bakiyev and his entourage, who are charged with grave crimes and who had fled the country, would be extradited to their homeland.
“This issue (of K. Bakiyev and his entourage’s extradition) is always on the agenda, such people should not shelter abroad,” Roza Otunbayeva stated at a briefing on Monday, answering a question of “Interfax.”
She stressed that “it is extremely important for all the pillage to be returned back, and everyone hiding abroad to be extradited.”
Kurmanbek Bakiyev, who had left the territory of Kyrgyzstan, stays in Belarus since April 2010, his younger son Maxim is in London, and whereabouts of other relatives is unknown for the law-enforcing agencies of the country.
At the same time, Roza Otunbayeva said that when she made an address in New York at the UN General Assembly last week giving reasons for return of Bakiyev’s retinue to the country, “Prime Minister of the Great Britain” was listening to her speech with great attention.
“We would bring to a completion all high-profile cases (assassinations of state servants and attacks on journalists), they are becoming more or less clear, and all that is giving a possibility to say that the former regime had been closely connected with the crime,” R. Otunbayeva noted.
“We shall make use of these investigations, we understand that the court trials which have been dragged out irritate many people, and we shall do everything for the search to be successful,” the president underlined.
The former president of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev, his sons Marat and Maxim, as well as his younger brother Zhanybek Bakiyev are charged with committing a number of grave crimes in Kyrgyzstan, including a mass murder of demonstrators in central Bishkek on April 7, 2010, abuse of power, economic crimes.
In addition, Zhanybek Bakiyev is accused of the murder of the ex-Chief of the Staff to the president, Medet Sadyrkulov.
