A memorial sign disappeared a day after the installation.
It was set up yesterday to pay tribute to the memory of the Polish army officers, among them many people from Western Belarus, who were executed in 1940-1941, Polskie Radio reports.
Historian Ihar Kuznyatsou, who participated in the event yesterday, says no traces of the monument were found today in Kurapaty. Both the memorial sign and flowers disappeared.
“I have just returned from Kurapaty. There was a ceremony yesterday to open the memorial stone with a plate informing that monument to the Polish officers executed from April 1940 till June 1941 will be set up. The ceremony was attended by 50 people, who laid flowers to the stone. There's only the concrete base left. No flowers, no candles.”
According to independent researches, the Soviet authorities killed about 4,000 captive Poles in Belarus.
