She learned it from an officer on duty.
The transfer from the detention centre in Minsk to a penal colony took Ales Byalyatski 11 days. He was guarded from prison No. 8 on Zhodzina to Valadarka detention centre on February 17, as it can be concluded from his letter to friends last week, Viasna human rights centre reports.
The chair of Viasna human rights centre will serve his sentence in penal colony No. 2 in Babruisk on a decision of the Pershamaiski district court of Minsk, which sentenced him to 4.5 years in a medium security penal colony and confiscation of property. Judge Syarhei Bandarenka found him guilty of tax evasion. Ales Byalyatski did not admit his guilt and called the verdict politically motivated. Money on his accounts in Lithuania and Poland did not belong to him, but was spent on helping victims of repressions, lawyers and other human rights activities. The verdict against Byalyatski was upheld by the judicial board of the Minsk City Court.
