Sikorski and Füle to represent European Dialogue on Modernisation with Belarus

A seminar “Privatisation and Private Enterprise in Belarus” will be held in Warsaw on April 16-17.

The seminar is a part of European Council's new initiative on Belarus titled “European Dialogue on Modernisation with Belarus”. The event opens the series of seminars to promote the new initiative. Next meetings are expected to take place in other EU countries.

The objective of the Dialogue is to develop a clearer understanding by the EU and by the Belarusian opposition and civil society on the vision of a modern and democratic Belarus and reforms necessary to build it.

The events of the Dialogue are based on four platforms: political dialogue and reforms; justice and inner policy; economy, privatisation reforms; trade, free marker and economy deregulation.

The meetings in Warsaw are a part if the economic platform of the Dialogue programme.

Representatives of the Belarusian civil society, businessmen, experts, representatives of public administration of medium and low level, experts on privatisation issues from the EU and other European and world financial institutions have been invited to take part in the Warsaw seminar. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle will open the event. Professor Leszek Balcerowicz, a former Polish Deputy PM, Minister of Finance, President of the Polish National Bank and the author of Polish economic reforms as part of the Polish transformation programme, is expected to give a special lecture on transformation in Poland.
