Syarhei Kavalenka. Hymn to white-red-white flag (Video)

An amatour film from the cycle “Chronicles of Judgment Day” dedicated to Syarhei Kavalenka appeared on the Internet.

The political prisoner, who was thrown into prison for the Belarusian national white-red-white flag, has been on hunger strike since December 2011. He was transferred to a unit of the republican hospital in Vitba-3 correctional facility. Prison doctors try to save his life and feed him through a tube, Viasna human rights centre reports.

The court of the Pershamaiski district of Vitebsk sentenced Syarhei Kavalenka for two years and a month in a minimum security correctional facility on February 24. The opposition was accused of violation of probation (article 415 of the Criminal Code). He was given a suspended sentence in May 2010 for hanging out a white-red-white flag on a Christmas tree in Vitebsk.

The opposition activist went on hunger strike in protest. He lost almost 40 kilograms of his weight. Kavalenka refuses to end the hunger strike protesting against the sentence.

The Vitebsk Region Court is to hear his appeal on April 10.
