Shunevich appointed new head of Ministry of Internal Affairs

Alyaksandr Lukashenka dismissed Anatol Kulyashou from the post of minister of internal affairs on May 11.
Police Lieutenant General Anatol Kulyashou has been assigned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The head of state appointed Police Colonel Ihar Shunevich minister of internal affairs. Shunevich was the first deputy minister of internal affairs of Belarus, the chief of criminal police.
Ihar Shunevich was born in Ukraine (the Lugansk region) in 1967. He graduated from Police Academy of the Republic of Belarus in 1992. He occupied different posts in the internal affairs bodies of Belarus. Having started his work as an investigator, he rose to the post of the deputy head of the police department of the Minsk city executive committee. In 2007-2012, he worked for the KGB heading the investigation department and later the main department on police counter-intelligence, combating corruption and organized crime. In 2012, he was appointed first deputy minister of internal affairs of Belarus – chief of the criminal police.
Ihar Shunevivh carried out unofficial interrogations of opposition leaders thrown into jail after the 2010 presidential election.
