A vivid example of these traditions is holding the Olympic Games in Nazi Germany in 1936.
Vital Rymasheuski, a co-head of the organizing committee to create the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party (BCD), comments on the decision of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to hold the 2014 world championship in Minsk, bchd.info reports.
“The taken decision does not contradict European traditions. Europe have both positive and negative ones. We have many examples in history when sports competitions were held in dictatorial countries. A vivid example is the Olympic Games in Nazi Germany in 1936. So, today's decision is in full compliance with the historical practice and the values shared by a number of people in European countries,” he noted.
