An activist of the Conservative Christian Party Belarusian Popular Front Syarhei Kavalenka is to be transferred from the remand prison Nr 1 in Valadarski Street to Vitsebsk remand prison Nr 2.
“Today the deputy chairman of the party Yury Belenki on my request visited the remand prison and found out that Syarhei is to be taken to Vitsebsk,” BelaPAN was told by the wife of the activist Alena. “I do not know where my husband is now, we are to find out that tomorrow.”
On May 2 Kavalenka was escorted to the remand prison in Valadarski Street in Minsk from the Republican Scientific and Practical Centre of Mental Health (Navinki). The decision to send the activist for a complex psychiatric examination in an in-patient hospital had been adopted by the panel of Vitsebsk court on April 10. Before the results of the examination the regional court suspended consideration of the cassation appeal by Kavalenka against the ruling of the court of Pershamajski district of Vitsebsk, which on February 24 found him guilty of evasion from serving the sentence, restriction of freedom (Article 415 of the Criminal Code). It is referred to the verdict issued in May 2010 for hanging a white-red-white flag on the main Christmas tree in Vitsebsk. He was sentenced for three years of conditional sentence.
