Institute of Economics and Peace presented its annual ranking of the peace-loving countries of the world, where Belarus took the 109th place out of 158 represented states.
Global Peace Index is composed by the international group of experts from a number of research institutes and think tanks. It assesses both the aggression inside the country and its foreign policy.
The rating compilers take into account a number of factors. As for Belarus, it has the worst performance (four points out of five) in "violent demonstrations" and "perceived criminality in society."
Iceland takes the first place in the ranking. It is followed by Denmark and New Zealand, ranking the 2nd. Canada is located on the fourth place, while Japan crowned the first five most peaceful countries.
The authors of the study emphasize that the rating is purely of a reference nature (the starting point for the global project "Prospects of Mankind," which aims to reveal the relationship of peace and sustainable development in the world) and calls not to make judgments about any particular country.
