Political prisoners cannot receive medicines in parcels

Eduard Lobau was denied receiving even the medicines prescribed by a prison doctor.

The Young Front member sent a letter from the Ivatsevichy penal colony saying he was denied a parcel with the medicines he needs for dental treatment, Radio Svaboda reports.

“He has a toothache. He needs dental filling materials. The doctor said the colony didn't have the necessary materials, so they must be sent in a parcel. I bought everything, but his application for a parcel was declined. They don't have medicines and do not allow to send them. The lawyer and I will go to the prison chief on Tuesday,” Maryna Lobava, the mother of the political prisoner, said.

As earlier reported by charter97.org website , political prisoner Syarhei Kavalenka faced the same problem in penal colony No. 19 in Mahilou. His wife says her husband didn't receive a parcel with medicines, though the list of medicines was approved by the prison authorities.

“He complains at headaches. He has not received the medical parcel from me. I sent it last Friday from a post office in the penal colony. I called the colony, but they did not explain anything,” Alena Kavalenka said.

Alena Kavalenka was told in the colony her husband was released from a punishment cell and declared a malicious offender of prison rules. The monthly sum of money he can spend was reduced from 100,000 to 50,000 rubles.
