A political prisoner demand the prison authorities to fulfill the prison food regulations.
Mikalai Statkevich sent a letter to his wife Maryna Adamovich. Maryna also talked to him on the phone. According to her, the political prisoner thanks all activists, who joined the initiative groups to propose Statkevich as a candidate. Maryna Adamovich says Mikalai Statkevich received a part of copies of decisions of election commissions, which refused to register the former presidential candidate. “Mikalai noted the decisions have the same text,” Maryna Adamovich says. She learned from a letter about her husband's long struggle for observing the nutrition guidelines for inmates. He found out these regulations were being violated, Radio Svaboda reports.
“He writes they tried to draw him into a conflict by not giving enough food to him. He didn't start a conflict, but he thinks now what to do with the food, which does not meet the standards. He writes: 'If they do not move me to general regime in order I can have my own food, let them organize meals in accordance to standards. I pay for it from my pension.' At a meeting of the parole board, which prolonged his prison term, he said he does not receive the food he pays for and called it a theft. He does not receive his 250 gr of vegetable. I know for sure he does not have enough food in prison and he cannot receive food parcels from outside.”
Mikalai Stsatkevich, a former presidential candidate, was sentenced to 6 years in prison for a protest rally against the rigged presidential election. He began to serve his term in a penal colony in Shklou, but was later transferred to a closed prison in Mahilou for violation of prison rules. Statkevich's term in a closed cell was prolonged in summer.
