No polling station will be set up at the Belarusian embassy in Sweden in the run-up to the parliamentary elections.
This decision was made by the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus at a session on 9 August.
The CEC voted in favor of amendments to its earlier resolution. Polling station No. 756 assigned to Kupala electoral district No. 95 in Minsk will be removed from the list of polling stations, because the Belarusian embassy in Sweden has been called back.
Chairperson of the Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina told reporters that the embassy in Stockholm extends to Denmark and Norway. Therefore, Belarusian citizens living in these countries will not be able to vote, either. “None of Belarusian nationals living in these countries will be able to case their votes”.
Lidia Yermoshina noted, “Let us not dramatize the situation. The polling station was located only in the Swedish capital, therefore, only people who lived close to it came to vote. They hardly came from other European capitals. I do not think that these voters are numerous. Those are mainly people working in the embassy and their family members”.
