Yarmoshyna: It's difficult to find candidates for local councils

The head of the Central Election Committee of Belarus, who is banned from entering the EU, says about the possible liquidation of rural councils.
According to her, the possibility of closing down rural councils was discussed at a meeting with Lukashenka focusing on amendments to the electoral legislation, Radio Svaboda reports.
Lidzia Yarmoshyna doesn't rule out the possibility of closing rural councils, because “it's very difficult to find candidates and secure the work of these representative bodies, which have little power”.
Belarus has the latest “elections” to the local councils in 2010. They, like all electoral campaigns and referendums held under Lukashenka's rule, were not recognised by the international community because of electoral frauds.
