The participants of the European Council summit will not discuss the status of the Belarusian Foreign Minister.
The press-secretary of the EU’s High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton Maya Kochiyanchich told that to BelaPAN.
“The European Council will focus on the next long-term budget of the European Union and the issues of the Arab Spring. Belarus is not included in the summit’s agenda”, - Kochiyanchich said.
According to her, the issue of altering Uladzimir Makei’s status will not be discussed. Uladzimir Makei is currently on the list of the Belarusian officials, to whom the entrance is forbidden to the EU’s territory.
“Our restrictive measures are periodically discussed and revised. But at the current moment there are not changes as to Makei’s status”, - Kochiyanchich emphasized.
We would remind that on the eve of the summit a Lithuanian MEP Justas Paletskis reported that the question of issuing a visa to the EU for the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry may be raised during the summit. In the opinion of a number of European officials, Makei should be allowed to enter the EU, since it his exactly the head of the MFA with whom the democratization of the country should be discussed first of all.
Uladzimir Makei was included list of the people, not allowed to enter the territory of the European Union according to the decision as of 31 January 2011. He was then the head of Lukashenka’s administration.
