The measures, suggested by the European Parliament’s reporter on Belarus, will lead to a new wave of repressions.
Such an opinion was expressed to the charter97.org web-site by Maryna Lobava, the mother of a political prisoner Eduard Lobau, when she commented on the suggestions of the European Parliament’s reporter on Belarus Justas Paletskis to cancel the sanctions and start a dialogue with Lukashenka.
“I was concerned and surprised that he saw improvements in the human rights situation in Belarus in 2012. I want Paletskis to write more in detail where he saw improvements. We here have not noticed any. Probably, this person lives in isolation from reality”, - the mother of a political prisoner believes.
She emphasized that the measures, suggested by him, will not lead to positive changes this time either.
“In 2009-2010 it was the same. While Lukashenka is in power, while he participates in elections, there can be no positive change”, - Maryna Lobava is sure.
The woman noted that Paletskis, most likely, is one of Lukashenka regime’s lobbyists.
“The Belarusian ruler need money since elections are approaching. The influx of loans is needed in order to support the declining economy. That is why certain people are trying to do everything possible to cancel the sanctions. But this will not lead to any results, since all the money will end up in the pockets of officials, and there will be no economic breakthroughs. The practice has shown where dialogue and financing the regime lead. There will be another farce under the name of “elections”, another set of political prisoners will be sent to prison, it may even go in a more brutal form, and everything will come back to where it was”, - the political prisoner’s mother summarized.
