The police didn't allow friends of Siarhei Matskoits, an activist of the European Belarus civil campaign, to meet him outside the detention centre.
Friends and relatives of the activist, who served a 20-day term in custody, planned to meet meet him outside the detention centre this morning. Matskoits didn't appear at the expected time. Prison officers said the activist had left the jail.
Charter97.org has learnt it from the human rights service of European Belarus.
It became known later that the activist had been taken to a police station for two hours.
Siarhei Matskoits was preventively detained at work on May 8. The activist was charged with violating article 17.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences (disorderly conduct) and sentenced to 20 days in custody.
