The boycott is the best alternative to unfair elections.
Henadz Fiadynich, the Chairman of the Trade Union of Radio and Electronic Industry, shared his opinion with charter97.org, about nomination of Mikalai Statkevich as a single candidate in the coming elections and the boycott in case authorities will fail to release and register him.
"The idea of a boycott is good. Not only because we will choose Statkevich, but, perhaps, because thanks to it he himself and other our colleagues will be released. This is our main task in this situation. However, there is a problem that our opposition, unfortunately, cannot reach consensus. If it is done then it should be carried out today so that it will not be late", he believes.
The leader of the independent trade unions do not believe in fair elections and says that a boycott is a brilliant alternative in the current situation.
"As for elections, we are all aware that whether Statkevich will participate or not they will be formally held , Fiadynich says. - Therefore, it does not make sense anymore: they may be held both without us and people. It is clear. I believe that people lost their ability to affect the situation long ago.
Another question is how to implement it, because it should be practiced by all stakeholders involved— not only by political parties, but also movements, and non-profit organizations. They should come together and decided what to do next. Those who remain in minority, well, it is their choice. But it is clear that they will not be able to deal with society in future".
