The EU will invite Belarus, but not Lukashenka personally, to the summit of Eastern Partnership in Riga in May.

Edgars Rinkēvičs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, stated, camarade.biz informs.

"Now States, but not officials, will receive invitations. I guess, within two months our diplomatic channels will show who is to speak for a State", the Head of Foreign Ministry told in his interview to Latvian radio.

He says Belarus itself will decide who will represent it at the summit in Riga. Other countries of Eastern Partnership will experience the same, he mentioned.

Since January 1, 2016 Latvia has taken the Presidency of the EU Council. About 200 events will be held in the Republic. In May the summit of Eastern Partnership will be the climax.

It should be recalled that in February during the visit of Edgars Rinkēvičs in Belarus he discussed initiative of Eastern Partnership with his Belarusian counterpart Uladzimir Makei. He called on the Government of Belarus to work actively to make it possible during the summit in Riga to initiate agreements between the EU and Belarus on visa facilitation and readmission agreements, as well as signing of the Declaration on the establishment of Partnership on mobility between the EU and Belarus.

Belarusian democratic forces oppose the dictator's presence at the summit.
