Several actions of solidarity with political prisoners held by Brest anarchists.
Large posters with a portrait of Mikalai Dziadok, sentenced on February 26 to an additional year of imprisonment were pasted up in the city center. Solidarity action was held on the occasion of the trial of political prisoner held in Mahileu prison,revbel.org reports.
Brest anarchists placed a banner "freedom to political prisoners" on the opposite side of one of the most crowded bus stops in the city center and spread 70 leaflets. "This action expresses our solidarity with all imprisoned comrades, who are punished by Belarusian authorities," the organizers of the event said. It should be reminded that Mikalai Dziadok was supposed to be released on March 3, 2015. On February 26 he was sentenced to an additional year in prison.
Human rights activists say that in recent months the Belarusian authorities have tightened repressions against the opposition, journalists and entrepreneurs. New political prisoners appeared, preventive arrests of public activists became more frequent, a number of new repressive laws with respect to mass media have been introduced, a blocking of independent sites became more frequent, pressure on a small enterprise reinforced. Experts say it happens because European officials remain oblivious to human rights violations in Belarus and are trying to establish dialogue with the dictator.
