Volha Mikalajchyk: Night Wolves’ raids are preparation for Belarus’ annexation

They are signals that we are heading for a very bad scenario, reminding the one of the Crimea and Donbas.
Bikers from the Night Wolves, a Russian motorcycle club are going to organise one more ride across the territory of Belarus. The motorcycle ride is planned for August 10-21. One of the parts of this rally is to go from Brest through Minsk and Homel, and then across the territory of Russia, and towards Sevastopol.
charter97.org has been told about the meaning and possible consequences of this event by a Belarusian filmmaker and a civil activist Volha Mikalajchyk.
“It is a statement of the fact that they feel as if they owned our land. They were met too hospitably last time probably; only we came to the tank in the Mound of Glory with a portrait of Mikhail Zhyzneuski. And our official authorities, the Belarusian Republican Youth Union, officials, rolled out the red carpet and bowed down to them.
On July 24 I am summoned to appear before court for participation in a performance with a cosmetics bag for the Night Wolves. My appeal against the previous decision of the court is to be reviewed, and I am afraid that the punishment, 13 days of administrative arrest, will be upheld.
That is why I do not know whether I would be at large, but I hope that I would be released before August 10. I simply urge Belarusians to stand on the way of these bandits. Behind all their declarations about the so-called “historical memory” are blood and death.
On their way they bribe our officials. This all is a preparation for annexation of our country by the Russian Federation. Their raids are signals that we are heading for a very bad scenario, similar to the one in the Crimea and Donbas.
That is why I am urging citizens not to be afraid, and take to the streets while they pass, with slogans which would make it clear for them that it is not their land, and they don’t belong here. If they see that people with white-red-white flags meet them at every corner, they will not return here anymore. Belarusians should understand that we are losing the country because of such “raids”, Volha Mikalajchyk said.
We remind that last time the visit of Russian bikers to Brest for participation in a motorcycle ride ended in a scandal: on April 27 they were turned away from the Polish border.
