Blocking Of Charter-97 Manifests Weakness, Not Strength

One country in the TV, and the other – outside the window.

A person forbidding someone to argue with him, shows not strength, but weakness.

The famous Belarusian – the general director of the Ukrainian Russian Radio in Kiev Siarhei Kuzin said this commenting on the blocking of the website Charter97.org in Belarus:

– Certainly, the blocking of independent sites is an attack on freedom of speech. Obviously, the elimination of the media is an abnormal phenomenon. You see, any prohibition is a manifestation of weakness, not strength. Therefore, the blocking of Charter97.orgis one more demonstration of the fact that when there is not enough abilities to convince, to prove the arguments, it is easier to exclude the opponent from the debaters; and this is what has happened.

In Belarus, already at the times when I was there, there was no information field but a wasteland: one country in the TV, and the other – outside the window. It seems to me that nothing has changed since then. What is happening in the Belarusian media space and the so-called ideology does not cause anything other than horror and laughter through tears.

I wish the editorial board of Charter 97 to go on implementing their professional skills and live to the day when we will be able to live in a free, democratic country, in which such situations with elimination of dissenting views will not arise, but there will be an opportunity to express an alternative opinion. Everything that fits into the concept of "freedom of speech" must be realized. No matter how unpleasant this is for the current authorities.

I want to emphasize once again, a person who forbids someone to argue with him, shows not strength, but weakness.
