Russian Environmentalist Speaks In Support Of Charter'97

The freedom of the independent media is important for the health of the nation, in direct sense.

«Such platforms as Charter'97 are extremely important for informing the society in the circumstances when the official media are censored greatly,» - co-Chairman of the Russian environmental organization "EcoProtection" Vladimir Slivyak, who repeatedly spoke against the construction of the NPP in Belarus, has said in a comment related to the blocking of the website Charter97.org:

According to him, blocking of independent platforms in Belarus is aimed at restriction of Belarusians' access to the information about the real state of affairs in the country.

«The attack on the independent platforms is a typical trick of the regime, aimed at restriction of the society's access to the real information. If Charter'97 stopped working, it would be a serious blow against the freedom of information,» - he noted.

«Of course, it would be much more difficult to convey the information about the danger of the NPP without the independent media, Charter'97 in particular,» - Slivyak summed up.
