Venezuelan Opposition Leader To Belarusians: We Need To Fight Together!
- 5.11.2021, 21:30
We protest until freedom comes.
Leader of the Venezuelan opposition Leopoldo Lopez, one of the brightest and most implacable opponents of the Chavist regime, who had previously spent several years in prison and under house arrest, appealed to the Belarusians:
I would like to send our support to the people of Belarus. Belarus and Venezuela are very different countries: different continents, different climate, different culture. But we are very similar with regard to the fight we are leading to achieve freedom and democracy in our countries. Like Venezuela in Belarus there was an electoral fraught and thousands, tens of thousands of people took to the streets. And the reaction of Lukashenka was the same as the reaction of Maduro in Venezuela. Repression, detaining people and even deaths. And that is why we understand that the fight for freedom in Belarus is the same as the fight for freedom in Venezuela and Nicaragua and Cuba and in every corner of the world where there is a strive for freedom, we need to work with solidarity. That is why today I would like to express my full support to the people of Belarus, to the workers and students who are calling for a peaceful movement to continue their fight for freedom and free elections.
In Belarus, there will be some protests, protests that are convincingly non-violent, and this needs to continue until there is freedom and free elections for the people of Belarus. This is the fight that we need to fight together, every woman, every man in every corner of the world, that believes that democracy and freedom is what every human being should live under. We need to fight together.
All our support to the people of Belarus!
