EU May Impose Sanctions Against Third-Country Airlines Because Of Situation At Border Between Belarus And Poland

Ursula von der Leyen has called for expanding the sanctions against the Belarusian authorities.
The EU will study the issue of imposing sanctions against airlines of third countries because of the migration situation at the Polish-Belarusian border. This was stated by Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
She also says that Head of the EU External Action Service Josep Borrell and deputy head of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas will travel in the coming days to the countries, from where the migrants come to the EU to make sure that measures are taken to "prevent their citizens from falling into the trap set by the Belarusian authorities".
Ursula von der Leyen considers the influx of migrants into the EU as a "hybrid attack".
"The Belarusian authorities should understand that such pressure on the EU will not help them to succeed in their objectives. I call on the EU member states to approve the extended regime of sanctions against the Belarusian authorities responsible for this hybrid attack," she said.
