Vitaliy Kulik, a political analyst and director of the Center for Civil Society Studies, spoke about this in an interview with the Glavred news publisher.
The People's Republic of China may want to provide "support" to the inhabitants of such territories as Siberia and the Far East.
“When Beijing sees that it is impossible to save the Putin or post-Putin regime, it will choose the path of supporting one or more independent states that will appear after the collapse of the Russian Federation and establish vassal relations with them. It is obvious that China will try to take as much of the Russian gas and oil rich territories as possible under its protectorate. First of all, Siberia and the Far East,” Kulik said.
The analyst does not exclude that China will even have to compete with the West for control over this part of the Russian Federation. He also recalled that a few years ago, Chinese experts discussed the topic of providing "support" to residents of the Russian border territories.
“That is, there was no direct talk about annexation, but such vague wording implies, among other things, the establishment of vassal relations and the granting of a protectorate to all newly independent states,” the analyst explained.
As for Moscow, in this matter everything depends on who will lead it and how it will look in the event of the collapse of the Russian Federation. Kulik is convinced that the division of the Russian Federation will include disintegration into territories that will be controlled by local interest groups.
“I assume, some 'warlords' like Strelkov will be able to control several districts but not the entire region. One of them will declare independence, and another 'warlord' will fight against him. When all this is settled and one group wins, China will build its relationship with this new group. In the meantime, this is a matter of conditional independence and conditional vassalage,” Kulik explained.
He added that we should not expect a quick peace, as well as a quick collapse of the Russian Federation.
