In the afternoon of March 11, Mark Bernstein, an activist and promoter of the development of the free Internet encyclopedia Wikipedia.org, was detained in Minsk. The video of the detention was published by pro-government Telegram channels associated with the security forces. According to zerkalo.io, it remains unknown why the law-enforcement agencies had questions to the activist.
"This person is distributing fake anti-Russian materials," pro-government Telegram channels reported.
Mark Bernstein is known in Belarus as an activist and promoter of the development of the free Internet encyclopedia Wikipedia.org. He is among the top 50 editors of the Russian Wikipedia.
Earlier on March 10, the Russian propaganda Telegram channel "Mrakoborets" published Mark's personal details, accusing him of violating Russia's new "law on fakes" by editing Wikipedia articles about Russia's attack on Ukraine.
