Previously, the Russian Federation concealed the general's name.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu inspected the West group of forces involved in the war in Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry says.

The ministry also named the commander of this group for the first time: Lieutenant General Andrei Sychevoy, RBC reported.

Shoigu listened to his report "on the current situation, and combat tasks carried out in the area of responsibility."

On July 18, the agency named Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov as the commander of the Vostok group in the war in Ukraine.

On 28 February, four days after Russia started its war against Ukraine, the EU imposed sanctions against Andrei Sychevoy.
