Journalist Dzianis Ivashyn Transferred From Hospital To Colony

Political prisoner journalist Dzianis Ivashin was released from the hospital and transferred to a squad in Mahiliou Colony No. 15, according to human rights activists. It is known that after being transferred from Hrodna to the colony, Ivashyn had a high temperature, up to 39 degrees, so instead of quarantine he was sent to the hospital.

Then it was reported that after being transferred to the colony, Dzianis Ivashyn felt very ill, he could not even write to us. The journalist has spent more than 700 days in detention.

Last year in September, Dzianis Ivashyn was sentenced to 13 years and 1 month in a penal colony, the journalist was charged under Art. 365 (“Interference in the activities of the representatives of the internal affairs bodies” and part 1 of article 356 of the Criminal Code (“State treason”).

His relatives and colleagues believe that the detention is linked to his latest investigation into former fighters of the Ukrainian Berkut, who, after escaping from Ukraine, got a job in the Belarusian OMON [Riot police - Ed.].

Hearings on the journalist's case were held behind closed doors.
