The reason has been given.
The German leadership has blocked the sale of new batches of weapons to Israel. The reason is concerns about the possible use of weapons against civilians.
This is reported by Politico.
As the publication notes, the decision on arms exports in Germany is made by the Federal Security Council, which consists of senior government officials.
However, German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck and Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock have refrained from approving arms exports to Israel, demanding assurances that it will not use German weapons to attack civilians.
‘Supplying arms to Israel is to comply with international humanitarian law. The reason for demanding such a commitment is that otherwise the German administrative court can put an end to it,’ the informed source told Politico.
The source reminded that several lawsuits have already been filed against the German government to stop arms exports to Israel. They claimed that the exports violate the law, according to which such weapons cannot be used to strike civilian targets.
