On Wednesday, Israel moved forward along two fronts in a ground operation in Lebanon against Hezbollah. Eight IDF soldiers were killed in the offensive.

The Israeli military said seven soldiers were killed in two Hezbollah attacks in southern Lebanon on Wednesday. Earlier, the IDF reported the death of a 22-year-old captain of a special forces brigade. Seven other military men were wounded.
Taken together, the deaths, which were announced on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, were among the largest losses suffered by Israeli troops in recent months.
Late Wednesday night, an Israeli airstrike targeted a residential building in the centre of the Lebanese capital. At least six people were killed and seven injured.
A CNN crew in Beirut heard loud explosions and saw smoke rising over the city centre. Earlier, three explosions were heard over Beirut's southern suburbs and smoke was seen.
The Israeli military said it had launched a precision strike targeting Beirut, CNN writes. The TV channel notes that this is the first Israeli strike in the heart of the capital since the last war between Lebanon and Israel in 2006.
A resident of the neighbourhood told CNN that the strike hit a building housing the Hezbollah-linked Islamic Health Authority.
